Catalyst Fund

In 2015, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center created the Catalyst Fund, a $15 million technology development program to accelerate innovative life science technologies at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. These include medical devices, drugs, vaccines, restorative medicines, diagnostics and digital health.

The Catalyst Fund is managed by Pappas Capital, a leading life science investment firm in Durham, NC, with advice on its investment decisions from Wake Forest Innovations and a Steering Committee of leading scientists and industry experts.

The Catalyst Fund supports activities that can increase the value of a technology and the likelihood of it being licensed for development, manufacture, and marketing by an established company or a start-up. Such activities include advanced prototyping, chemical synthesis, pharmacokinetic studies, achieving proof of concept in a validated preclinical or clinical model of disease, safety testing, market research, etc.
