Stories of Medical Innovation

If You’re Attending the American Diabetes Association’s 77th Scientific Sessions, We Want to Be There to Connect You with Industry.

There will be over 13,000 professionals attending the American Diabetes Association’s Scientific Sessions in San Diego, California this June, representing a broad array of expertise, from diabetes researchers to health care professionals.

The Center for Industry Research Collaboration of Wake Forest Innovations will be there to help you make the right connections in the sea of researchers, clinicians and industry representatives.

You have a lot of ground to cover when attending conferences—sessions to attend, exhibitors to visit, networking to do. On top of that, you want to promote your own research. Your research deserves attention, but you also want the right kind of attention.

The Center for Industry Research Collaboration wants to help you make the most of your trip to San Diego.

“We attend conferences like the Scientific Sessions to connect Wake Forest Baptist researchers and clinicians with the companies who are interested in your line of work,” says Terry Ladd, MBA, director of business development for the Center.

Here are three ways we can help you get the most out of the American Diabetes Association’s 77th Scientific Sessions:

1. Direct industry representatives to your presentation or poster

Are you presenting a poster or abstract at the Scientific Sessions? We want to drive more traffic to your posters and scientific sessions.

“There will be more than 3,000 research presentations at the conference this year,” says Erica Hale, project manager for the Center for Industry Research Collaboration. “We can highlight the posters and sessions of our Wake Forest researchers by directing industry representatives to them.”

If we know what you are presenting on, in addition to directing traffic through our booth at the conference we can also share the time and place of your presentations with our individual contacts. As we interact with relevant industry members at the conference, we’ll send them in your direction.

2. Set up meetings—the right meetings—with industry interested in your research

Hundreds of companies will be attending the Scientific Sessions this year. To help you make sense of that crowd, Wake Forest Innovations can reach out to the vendors and companies that will be in attendance, targeting businesses specifically interested in your work or services.

“Conferences are busy times for attendees. We want to help you make the most of your time by setting up industry meetings,” says Ladd. “The more we know about your work ahead of time, the more specific we can be in targeting industry sponsors for potential meetings.

Contact us before the conference and let us know what you’re working on. We’ll do our homework to find potential industry sponsor matches.

 3. Be a resource

“The reason we go to conferences like this one is to be a resource for our clinicians and researchers,” says Hale.

Wake Forest Innovations will have a booth—#1748—set up in the exhibit hall. If you connect with any industry sponsors at the conference, we can be a resource for you. We’ll meet with interested sponsors and give them details about sponsored research at Wake Forest Baptist. We can collect their contact information and even organize meetings with potential industry sponsors.

“At the conference, we want to help field questions from industry and facilitate interactions between you and industry contacts,” says Ladd.
