Wake Forest Innovations would like to introduce the newest member of the Center for Technology Innovation & Commercialization.
Rick Smith, MBA, joins the Center as a licensing director with the commercialization team. In his role, Smith will support the Center’s mission to accelerate the development and commercialization of inventions from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center faculty and staff. He will build collaborative relationships with industry partners to bring proprietary technologies from Wake Forest Baptist to the marketplace where they can influence patient care.

Smith has more than 25 years of experience in technology commercialization, including work with academic proprietary technologies at institutions such as Columbia Technology Ventures and Rutgers University. He brings a depth of expertise in engineering, biomaterials, research and development, business strategy, intellectual property, negotiation and business development. In addition to a masters of business administration, his educational background includes master of science degrees in electrical engineering and entrepreneurship in applied technologies.
Smith joins Wake Forest Innovations from his roles as president and technology commercialization consultant for Inlustris, LLC, where he managed technology licensing teams specializing in university physical and life science technologies. In addition to his management role, he consulted on technology development projects, focusing on increasing potential value of products.
